Karima Baloch was listed as one of the most inspirational and influential women by BBC in 2016.In 2016, BBC had chosen a list of inspirational and influential women in which activist Karima Baloch, who had been vocal about Pakistan Army and government atrocities in Balochistan, was one of the 100 women on the list. Karima was a Canadian refugee and the initiator of women's activism in Balochistan. She had also raised the issue of Balochistan in the United Nations sessions in Switzerland.

According to Balochistan Post, Karima was missing since Dec. 20, 2020, and was later found dead in Toronto, Canada on Dec. 22. The human rights activist had fled to Canada amid threats. She had been living in Toronto since 2015, seeking political asylum.
