The statement by President Trump confirms that he is taking hydroxychloroquine as preventive medicine against the COVID-19 despite medical warnings. On 18 May 2020, Donald Trump had told reporters at the White House that for a couple of weeks he has been taking hydroxychloroquine(HCQ) drug by consulting White House physician Sean Conley as a defence against COVID-19 despite the U.S. Food and Drug Administration(FDA) warnings that it is dangerous.

On 24 April 2020, the FDA had warned that the HCQ drugs should not be used for treating COVID-19 because it could cause irregular heartbeats and other cardiac trauma. Also, the drug is not approved as a treatment for COVID-19, but they have authorized as a temporary use for the treatment of the virus in hospitalized patients when clinical trials are not available, or participation is not feasible, through an Emergency Use Authorization(EUA).

The COVID-19 pandemic has given rise to a lot of potentially dangerous misinformation. For reliable advice on COVID-19 including symptoms, prevention and available treatment, please refer to the World Health Organisation or your national healthcare authority.
