The can opener was invented 48 years after canned food.

Articles published by the Connecticut History and Encyclopedia Britannica confirm the claim.

Articles published by the Connecticut History and Encyclopedia Britannica confirm the claim. The process of canning was invented by Nicolas Appert of France in 1809. His method consisted of tightly sealing food inside a bottle or jar, heating it to a certain temperature, and maintaining the heat for a certain period, after which the container was kept sealed until use. Building on this, in 1810 Peter Durand of England introduces the use of tin-coated iron cans instead of bottles. However, the first can opener was invented 48 years later, on 5 January 1858, by a Waterbury native Ezra J. Warner. This can opener was a blade that cut into the can lid with a guard to prevent it from puncturing the can.
