Refined oils of inferior quality have taken over the Indian markets.

The Indian market is filled with palmoline oil, which is sold under the name of refined edible oil, but it is not refined.

The Indian market is filled with palmoline oil, which is sold under the name of refined edible oil, but it is not refined. Palm oil has been the leading edible oil imported by India. Soybean oil imports have also risen. Together both sum up to 65% to 75% of our total consumption. The Indian market is flooded with tins of palmoline oil, which is sold under the name of refined edible oil and priced at par with the other better varieties of edible oils. The irony here is that a customer who has bought the refined oil at a lesser price is paying more money for adulterer refined oil.

In the last few years, Indian native edible oils have been undermined by foreign oils such as palm, soybean, sunflower, and safflower. It was also found that reputed oil brands to be adulterated with ordinary palm oil or other cheap oils. The Tamil Nadu Food Safety and Drug Administration Department have warned the Indian public that adulterer oils could contain up to 70% palm oil content. An unidentified essence would be added to give the desired flavor.

According to the Indian Government, India is the largest importer of Palm oil globally, followed by China, Pakistan, and the Netherland.
