The studies published by the NCBI and the Royal Society confirms that water-induced finger wrinkles improve the handling of web objects underwater.According to these studies, the submerged objects are handled more quickly with wrinkled fingers than with unwrinkled fingers and this may be an adaptation for handling objects in wet conditions. It also added that wrinkles make no difference to manipulating dry objects and it is not effective in dry conditions.
In a video, Tom Smulders of Newcastle University Institute of Neuroscience explains in full detail about his findings that people are faster at moving objects underwater as their fingers are wrinkled.
