Delaware State University spokesperson Carlos Holmes has affirmed that Joe Biden had not attended DSU.
However, in the speech, Biden had not made a direct claim of attending the university, the statements had sprouted the mischaracterization of the context by media.
The Washington Times had reported on the statement and featured a quote from DSU spokesman Carlos Holmes denying Biden as a student in that university. Holmes had indicated that he was unaware of the context and had only refuted the instance of him attending DSU, which was used by some media to portray Biden in a dishonest light.
The former vice president holds an honorary doctoral degree from University and has delivered two commencement speeches for the school in 2003 and 2016.
Biden had also further clarified that his comments were linked to his longtime history in Delaware politics. In his 2016 commencement address, he had stated that members of the DSU student community played a memorable role in his first Senate run, but did not associate himself as a student from DSU.
