Researchers from the United States in a study have found that resolvins from omega-3 fatty acids could prevent COVID-19 cytokine storms.

Research report and abstract published by PubMed confirm omega-3 fatty acids could prevent COVID-19 cytokine storms.

Research report and abstract published by PubMed confirm omega-3 fatty acids could prevent COVID-19 cytokine storms. The U.S National Library of Medicine National Institutes of Health(PubMed) has cited an abstract of the article which stated that Arachidonic acid(AA) including other unsaturated fatty acids and their metabolites may serve as endogenous anti-viral compounds and its deficiency can show humans susceptible to SARS-CoV-2(COVID-19). It further added, the oral administration of fatty acid is likely to enhance resistance and recovery from COVID-19 infection.

Another clinical trial study report published by Pubmed says that the pro-inflammatory metabolites such as resolvins suppress inflammation, enhance healing and augment and also decrease the microbial load. It added these actions suggest that using the specific nutrients such as n3- fatty acids and antioxidant vitamins in extraordinary doses modulate the host immune response and ameliorate the cytokine storm associated with viral diseases such as COVID-19.

The study done by researchers shows increasing the levels of resolvins or lipid mediators in the body could be a new therapeutic approach in preventing inflammation caused by COVID-19. However, even though the preliminary clinical trials suggest that omega-3 fatty acids could prevent COVID-19 related cytokine storms, many more extensive studies and trials are needed to determine the accurate results.

The COVID-19 pandemic has given rise to a lot of potentially dangerous misinformation. For reliable advice on COVID-19 including symptoms, prevention and available treatment, please refer to the World Health Organisation or your national healthcare authority.
