Aarey land dispute is currently pending in the court of law for declaring it as a forest.
Additionally, the government had also stated that the land had been used for non-forest activities since 1949. The large green area was marked out for dairy development activities in 1949 to supply milk to Mumbai.
According to the report given by The Hindu, some of the declassified documents stated that the revenue land was transferred to the State Forest Department from the Bombay Milk Scheme. After the transfer, the area had become part of Sanjay Gandhi National Park.
