The BJP pressed to increase the minimum pension of employees under the EPS 95 to Rs 3,000 in 2014.

Prakash Javadekar had proposed a raise in the minimum pension to Rs. 3000/- per month under the Employees' Pension Scheme(1995) in 2014.

Prakash Javadekar had proposed a raise in the minimum pension to Rs. 3000/- per month under the Employees' Pension Scheme(1995) in 2014.On January 15, 2014, Javadekar, the Bhartiya Janata Party(BJP) spokesperson, petitioned the Rajya Sabha Petition Committee, to increase the minimum pension to Rs. 3000/- per month, and also demanded that it should be indexed to inflation. The BJP placed this demand after the reports that the UPA government is about to declare Rs. 1000/- as the minimum pension under the scheme surfaced in the media. The Petitions Committee had accepted all the needs and recommended the government to consider the main demands, and had also suggested improving the scheme further.

However, Bandaru Dattatreya, the then Minister of Labour and Employment, had said that due to financial constraints, an increase in government share of contribution under the Employees' Pension Scheme (EPS), 1995 from 1.16 percent to 8.33 percent had not been accepted.
