
Mangeshkar had said she hopes to see Narendra Modi as the next Prime Minister during an inauguration of a hospital in Pune in Nov. 2013.
While addressing the attendees, Mangeshkar called Modi her ‘brother’ and said that she would love to see him as the PM, The Hindu BusinessLine reported. “All of us want to see him become the Prime Minister. On the auspicious occasion of Diwali, I hope our wishes would come true”, she said.
Following, Mangeshkar's endorsement, the Congress party expressed their disappointment over the incident. Party spokesperson Bhakta Charan Das told the reporters in Delhi that "the entire nation feels pain when something like this comes out of Lataji's voice for an insensitive person like Narendra Modi", the Firstpost reported.
