Ahead of the assembly elections in West Bengal, a morphed image of PM Modi and Amit Shah wearing skull caps is circulating on social media.
However, upon doing a reverse image search to determine this image's origin, we found that the original image was posted on the Getty Images website. A zoomed version of this image has been morphed to include two skullcaps on Modi and Amit Shah's heads. According to Getty's image caption, the original image is owned by The Hindustan Times and was clicked on August 27, 2019, outside the Jaitley residence in New Delhi.
PM Modi and Amit Shah had visited the late Indian Finance Minister Arun Jaitley's residence to offer their condolences upon Mr. Jaitley's death. Arun Jaitley passed away at the Indian Institute of Medical Science, Delhi, on August 24, 2019.
The quint has also published a story on the image of Narendra Modi and Amit Shah wearing skullcaps and debunked it. Thus we can confirm that an image from 2019, unrelated to the 2021 West Bengal elections, is morphed and shared on social media with a false narrative.
