The world record for eating 72 cupcakes in six minutes was set by Patrick Bertoletti in 2012.The Ukraine-born competitive eater Pat "Deepdish" Bertoletti of Chicago was crowned champion as he ate 72 cupcakes under 6 minutes. Major League Eating sanctioned the event. The world record was set in the Second Annual World Cupcake Eating Championship held at the Isle Casino Hotel Waterloo on April 14, 2020, and won $1,500. Thirteen entrants ate a record number of cupcakes totaling nearly 700. In 2011, Eater X had set the World Record of eating 42 cupcakes in 8 minutes. Bertoletti's particular world record is yet to be broken.
