Italia surrendered after his anticipatory bail plea was rejected by a sessions court, following which he moved the High Court.
According to the party’s legal cell head Pranav Thakkar, an FIR was registered at Ahmedabad’s Gujarat University police station against four people, including Italia, in Jan 2021. The complaint was filed under Indian Penal Code sections 143 (unlawful assembly), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to public servant), 146 (violence by an unlawful assembly), and 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant), The New Indian Express reported.
The complaint took place after an alleged scuffle broke out between the leaders and the police. It happened despite the party carrying permission from the cops to hold the meeting, Thakkar said.
Italia was granted regular bail by additional chief metropolitan magistrate RB Marfatiya against a bond of Rs10,000, the NDTV reported. He had also applied for an anticipatory bail plea, which was rejected by a sessions court, following which he moved the High Court.
