The National Green Tribunal has asked LG Polymers India to pay 50 crore penalty for the gas leak incident in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.

The news articles confirm that the LG Polymers India had been slapped with a penalty of Rs 50 crore by the National Green Tribunal.

An order dated 8 May 2020 issued by the NGT following the gas leak incident at a chemical factory in Andhra Pradesh, directed LG Polymers India to deposit an initial amount of Rs 50 crore for the damaged caused. The tribunal said it was necessary to ascertain the facts relating to the extent of damage and remedial measures. Hence it issued notices to concerned parties including the Central Pollution Control Board and the Ministry of Environment.
