The man hanging from the helicopter was a Taliban member attempting to hoist a flag over a building inKandhar.A viral social media video showed the Taliban flying one of the many Black Hawk helicopters left behind in Afghanistan by U.S. forces. In the video, it seemed that a person was hanging in the air from the helicopter. However, it is false. The video was reportedly captured in Kandahar.

The BBC reported the incident and clarified that the man waving the Taliban flag and wearing a diver's winch from a Blackhawk helicopter is still alive. Several Afghanistan experts, quoting Taliban sources, told the BBC that the flight on August 30 was in an attempt to fix a flag over a public building using their newly-captured U.S.-built equipment.

Local Afghan journalist Bilal Sarwary tweeted that he knew the Afghan pilot who flew the helicopter. He identified the man as a Taliban fighter who had attempted but failed to install the Islamist group's flag.
