Former South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg was approved by the Senate as Biden's Transportation Secretary in the United States.The Senate confirmed Pete Buttigieg as the U.S. Transportation Secretary, after he was approved on an 86-13 vote. He is the former mayor of South Bend and had a strong start to his 2020 presidential bid by nearly winning the Iowa caucuses. He backed out of the race on March 1, 2020, and started endorsing Joe Biden. He will take charge of the transportation department with 55,000 employees and a budget of tens of billions of dollars.
Shortly after the vote, Buttigieg tweeted, “I’m honored and humbled by today’s vote in the Senate and ready to get to work.”
