Chakraborty recently joined Trinamool Congress (TMC) and is contesting in the 2021 West Bengal Legislative Assembly Elections. Along with Chakroborty, Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) Bijpur nominee, Subhranshu Roy, also filed his nomination on the same day.

Ei Samay reported that on March 31, 2021, while Chakraborty was filing his nomination in Barrackpore, there was a clash between BJP and TMC supporters. Bullets were fired, and stones were pelted. At least 15 were injured, as per India Today's report. Vehicles were also vandalized and damaged. Chakraborty's leg was injured during the mob's stone-pelting. Roy's car was allegedly vandalized by TMC supporters. The police used batons to dismiss the crowd. BJP and TMC blamed each other for the clash, and the Election Commission sought a report on it from the district administration.

There are no reports of Arjun Singh's involvement in this incident. Singh is an MP from the Barrackpore Lok Sabha constituency in West Bengal. He contested the 2019 Indian general election as a BJP candidate and won.
