While the Taliban says Mr. Saleh operates from Turkey, the resistance insists their leaders are in Panjshir. This claim cannot be presently verified.Taliban took over the control of Afghanistan after president Ashraf Ghani fled the country and the U.S. forces withdrew. But some parts of Afghanistan are still under the control of Northern alliance forces. The anti-resistance forces have restrained the Taliban from capturing three districts near the Panjshir valley in northern Kabul. The resistance group is led by Ahmad Massoud and Afghan ex-VP Amrullah Saleh. They have been leading from the front in the fight against the Taliban.

There have been conflicting reports about the Taliban taking over the control of Panjshir valley, and some media reported that Saleh had fled to Tajikistan. However, the report was denied by Saleh himself, who said he has been engaging with the local commanders in the valley and claimed that they are mounting a strong offensive against the Taliban.

However, there is no proper evidence on where the top leadership of the Afghan resistance are presently stationed.
