The Reserve Bank of India has released the wilful defaulter's list in the response to a petition filed by Saket Gokhale under the RTI Act. Saket Gokhale had filed a petition under the Right to Information (RTI) Act to release a list of the top bank defaulters till 2019. In response to his query, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) released the top 50 wilful defaulters list with loan write-off worth ₹68,600 crores. The first one of the list is Mehul Choksi's company Gitanjali Gems with ₹5,492 crores followed by REI Agro with ₹4,314 crores, and Winsome Diamonds and Jewellery at ₹4,076 crores.

The other firms in the list are Rotomac Global Private Limited which owes ₹2,850 crores, Kudos Chemie Ltd with ₹2,326 crores. Ruchi Soya Industries Ltd owes ₹2,212 crores, which is now Patanjali owned by Baba Ramdev, Zoom Developers Pvt Ltd which owes ₹2,012 crores and in the ninth position is Vijay Mallya's Kingfisher Airlines with ₹1,943 crores. Forever Precious Jewellery and Diamonds Private Limited have loans worth ₹1,962 crores. Deccan Chronicle Holdings Limited owes ₹1,915 crores, and Choksi's other firms, Gili India and Nakshatra Brands, also have loans of ₹1,447 and ₹1,109 crores respectively.
