A man died in an altercation due to political rivalry in Uttar Pradesh.

Anil Yadav was allegedly beaten to death over rivalry for canvassing to contest in the panchayat election in Uttar Pradesh.

Anil Yadav was allegedly beaten to death over rivalry for canvassing to contest in the panchayat election in Uttar Pradesh. Anil, a garment factory worker in Gujarat, returned to the Sonahra village of Bardah in the Azamgarh district, aspiring to contest in the panchayat election scheduled to be held from April 15. He started canvassing and purportedly irked the Gram Pradhan Ranvijay Yadav, who is also contesting, resulting in an altercation between them.

Suudhir Kumar Singh, Azamgarh superintendent, said Anil "worked in a weaving unit in Ahmedabad, Gujarat and was staying here for the past few weeks with a motive to contest panchayat polls." On March 29, Anil and Ranvijay argued after consuming alcohol during a feast. Ranvijay and his supporters allegedly forced Anil not to contest. The altercation turned physical, and Anil sustained a head injury and died. Ranvijay has been arrested, an FIR has been filed on Ranvijay and at least eight others, the superintendent added.
