An interview with Disha Ravi from 2020 suggests her parents were supporters of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at one point.Disha Ravi, a 22-year-old environmental activist, was arrested by the Delhi Police for sharing a document intended to help farmers protest against agricultural laws. Police said she was a "key conspirator" and accused her of spreading "disaffection across the Indian State." The document was a "toolkit" shared online by the environmental activist Greta Thunberg.

Disha Ravi is one of the founders of the local wing of Fridays For Future, a global movement begun by climate change Thunberg.

In an interview with U.S.-based writer Gayle Kimball, in 2020, Ravi says: “The press is really controlled by him (Modi), so a lot of the mainstream press is rightwing, so my parents support him (Modi), I don’t." She added that there was "no freedom of press in India." Kimball has since deleted the interview, but it has resurfaced on OpIndia, India Tomorrow, and YouTube.

Ravi's parents have had little contact with the press and have not discussed their political leanings. In an interview with India Express, Ravi's mother. Manjula Ravi, said: “I just want my daughter to return home safe, and don’t want to say anything that might go against her."
