A massive explosion rocked the Lebanese capital Beirut due to a large amount of ammonium nitrate stored at a warehouse.On 4 August 2020, a massive explosion occurred at a facility storing approximately 2,750 tonnes of the chemical ammonium nitrate in Beirut. The blast destroyed the city's port, damaging buildings across the capital. More than 145 people died and 3,000 injured. Lebanon's President held an emergency cabinet meeting and declared Beirut as a disaster city and a state of emergency for two renewable weeks. Further, the cabinet ordered the high military authority to impose house arrest of everyone. In his speech in the evening, Prime Minister Hassan Diab said that those responsible would be held accountable and punished.
