A petition by journalist unions confirms that Bloomberg Quint told its staff that there would be a salary cut for April 2020.As per Live Law, the National Alliance of Journalists (NAJ), the Delhi Union of Journalists (DUJ), and the Brihan Mumbai Union of Journalists have jointly filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court, seeking directions to ensure that journalists are not terminated or face reduced wages under the excuse of the nationwide lockdown. It adds that Bloomberg Quint emailed its staff to say that there would be a steep salary cut for April. It also added that it expects to resume the normal salary cycle from May but made no mention of making up the lost salary for April (Refer Page No.13).
An article published by The News Minute has reported the same and has stated that the NAJ and DUJ have accused media owners of using the nationwide lockdown announced to combat the spread of COVID-19 as an excuse for reduction and temporary cuts in pay.
