Many were killed in an explosion that took place inside a factory in West Bengal.

An explosion occurred at a plastic factory in Sujapur of West Bengal’s Malda district killing five people and leaving several others injured.A blast took place in a recycling factory at the Sujapur area of Malda district in West Bengal at 11 am on Nov. 19, 2020. At least five people died in the explosion and many others were reported injured. The injured people have been taken to the Malda Medical College, while four persons died on the spot. The preliminary investigation reported that the explosion took place due to some faults in the machinery. A forensic team is examining the place as further details are expected.

A resident near the factory said that the blast took place around 11 am where nearly 20 employees were working inside the factory, which recycled plastic, iron, and brass.

The explosion was very loud and people staying at least two kilometers away from the site of the incident could hear the noise. The walls of the factory collapsed and a few houses in its vicinity were also damaged.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had announced a compensation of Rs 2 Lakh for the family of those who died in the blast and Rs 50,000 for the injured in the blast.
