The news published by the State Council confirms that China had started testing the digital currency in four major cities.A report by China Daily cited a senior official from the digital currency research institute of the PBOC who stated that the trials of digital currency were being conducted in a closed environment and not connected to the existing sovereign currency issuance and circulation system. Pilot programs had been launched in Shenzhen, Suzhou, and Chengdu, as well as in the Xiongan New Area, Hebei province.
