Late Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru said empower through education, not reservation and he was strongly against anything which led to inefficiency.The Supreme Court of India's judgement on Other Backward Class quota in education institutions, the Writ Petition (civil) 265 of 2006, has quoted a letter written by Prime Minister Nehru to the Chief Ministers on 27 June 1961, in which he states that he dislikes any kind of reservation, particularly in service, and necessitates the need of getting out of the old habit of reservations and particular privileges being given to particular caste or group. The petitioner of the case was Ashoka Kumar Thakur and the respondent was the Union of India and the case was disposed on 10 April 2008. (Ref. page no: 537)
