The tariff reduction was announced to help businesses, industries, and residents as a relief amid the coronavirus crisis. The electricity charges for residential consumers of Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) was reduced by 5% for the financial year 2020-21, while consumers of Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport Undertaking (BEST) was reduced by an average of 8% for 2020-21.
Industrial units served by private sector discoms like Adani Energy and Tata Power in Mumbai will have power rates slashed by 18-20 percent, commercial establishments by 19-20 percent, and residential homes by 10-11 percent.
