Reportedly, three days before the first phase of the state election, on March 25, a BJP Mandal president, Amit Sarkar, was found hanging in a veterinary hospital premises Dinhata Cooch Behar. The incident sparked violence after BJP supporters vandalized TMC party offices, alleging that TMC goons were behind the killing. TMC denied BJP's allegations and asked for an inquiry into the matter.
