Resignation of 6 ministers reduced the strength of the State Assembly of Madhya Pradesh to 222 seats and brought the majority mark to 112.

The news article published by All India Radio and Rajya Sabha TV websites supports the claims.

The news article published by All India Radio and Rajya Sabha TV websites supports the claims. The Madhya Pradesh assembly has a total of 230 seats, but two are vacant following the death of the incumbents. The Congress had 114 MLAs with the BJP's tally standing at 107. However, on March 15, 2020, the Speaker of the house accepted resignations of 6 ministers. This brought the total number of seats in the house down to 222, with the majority lying at 112 seats. The 6 ministers who resigned were part of the 22 Congress MLA's who resigned after former Union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia left the party and joined the BJP.

These developments have created a political crisis for Congress in Madhya Pradesh and BJP is demanding an immediate floor test stating that Congress now lacks a majority the State Assembly. However, the floor test has not taken place as the assembly is adjourned until 26 March over the coronavirus pandemic.
