Bernie Sanders voted for indefinite detention for illegal immigrants in 2006.

Bernie Sanders voted in support of the Community Protection Act of 2006 to permit indefinite detention of undocumented migrants.

Bernie Sanders voted in support of the Community Protection Act of 2006 to permit indefinite detention of undocumented migrants. According to the GovTrack website, Bernie Sanders who was running for Senate from Vermont in 2006, voted in support of the bill H.R.6094(109th bill), Community Protection Act of 2006. Even though The Community Protection Act of 2006 passed the House on Sept. 21, 2006, it died in the Senate.

However, according to the Congressional Research Service’s official summary of the bill, it would, among other things, permit the indefinite detention of specified dangerous aliens under orders of removal who cannot be removed, subject to review every six months. Even though the bill does not use the precise words "indefinite detention," it essentially means that. Therefore, Bernie Sander did vote in favour of a bill that would have led to the indefinite detention of undocumented immigrants.
