Chinese troops attacked Indian soldiers with iron rods and nail-studded clubs during the face-off between the two troops at Galwan valley in Ladakh. Twenty Indian soldiers including, the commanding officer of an infantry battalion, were killed on June 15, 2020, in a clash with Chinese troops in eastern Ladakh’s Galwan valley. The violent face-off took place during the de-escalation process after a month-long standoff between the troops at several points along the LAC in Ladakh. Many sources reported that Chinese troops used iron clubs and rocks and assaulted Indian army personnel. The army had also reported that there was no firing during the face-off as the soldiers were unarmed, which is part of a protocol between the two sides. The clashes spread out from the Patrol point 14 area to a nearby narrow ridge overlooking the river, and many soldiers later fell into the water and, their bodies were later retrieved.
