Greg Gianforte acknowledged his mistake in misbehaving with the Guardian reporter Ben Jacobs and apologized for his actions.Greg Gianforte, a Republican, was alleged that he beat a Guardian reporter during a campaign event in May 2017. He was charged with a misdemeanor offense. The alleged assault occurred when the reporter, Ben Jacobs, pressed Gianforte on the Republican healthcare plan. The audio file of Gianforte manhandling the political reporter for the Guardian went viral, which forced the congressmen to tender an apology. Other journalists who were present at the place provided similar details.

Two days later, Gianforte apologized to Jacobs which contradicted the narrative put out by his campaign spokesman. The House member said in a statement that his response to the reporter's legitimate question was unprofessional, unacceptable, and unlawful.
