CDC, breifly took down their coronavirus data after the Trump administration shifted control of Covid-19 information to the HHS. The Trump administration ordered hospitals in the United States to change how they reported coronavirus data to the government. The Trump administration shifted control of the information to the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). Officials at the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) briefly took down their data on Covid-19 after this decision. According to Politico, there has been a growing rift between the CDC and the White House. CDC officials have complained they've been sidelined during the crisis as President Donald Trump pushes for faster re-openings, while White House officials argued they're being forced to work around the agency's weak spots.

Furthermore, the decision to shift data from CDC to HHS was because White House coronavirus coordinator Deborah Birx and other senior officials had grown frustrated with data delays and they blamed the CDC's system, saying it was clunky and inflexible.

Subsequently, HHS directed the CDC to re-establish the public hospital data on its website after they took it down. The CDC's web page for data on available hospitals and ICU beds has been replaced with a note that reads: 'Data displayed on this page was submitted directly to CDC's National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) and did not include data submitted to other entities contracted by or within the federal government.'
