Bill Gates said the COVID-19 vaccine side-effects could be fatal and cause permanent damage or disability.

Bill Gates said that 7 billion people could suffer the side-effects of the COVID-19 vaccines, but he did not say it causes permanent damage. On April 9, 2020, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates appeared on CNBC's interview with Becky Quick and talked about the side-effects of COVID-19 vaccines. But he never said the vaccines would kill or permanently disable people. He was talking about the extent of side-effects while vaccinating nearly 7 billion people worldwide. He explains that side-effects to even one in 10,000 people would mean 7 lakh people could be affected. Additionally, he said that people should be prepared for the prevailing circumstances to continue for the foreseeable future.

As per the World Health Organization and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, like many other vaccines, COVID vaccines also have some side-effects, but they should go away in a few days. Vaccine side-effects are common signs that our body develops as protection against the virus.

The National Health Service advises that all medicines can prompt side effects, mainly if not used as prescribed. Side effects can vary from mild, such as drowsiness or feeling sick (nausea), to life-threatening conditions, although these are uncommon or rare. The chances of side effects vary from person to person.

According to Science Magazine, participants who received COVID-19 jabs from Moderna and Pfizer had discussed the vaccine shots' effects. It added that fewer than 2 percent of Pfizer and Moderna vaccine recipients developed severe fevers of 39°C to 40°C. There are no reports of permanent damage or disability due to the vaccine.

The COVID-19 pandemic has given rise to a lot of potentially dangerous misinformation. For reliable advice on COVID-19 including symptoms, prevention and available treatment, please refer to the World Health Organisation or your national healthcare authority.
