Surat Commissioner of Police R. B. Brahmbhatt ordered an inquiry into the incident on July 11, 2020. Following the investigation, Prakash Kanani and his friends were arrested the next day and released on bail later. Sunita Yadav, who worked at the Varachha Police Station, was transferred to the police headquarters, and she resigned after not receiving any help in the matter from her superiors. She tweeted about resigning on July 13 and confirmed it to India Today on July 15 in an interview.
