The world's largest iceberg with a length of 170 kilometers has broken off the coast of Antartica.

The iceberg A-76 broke off from the Ronne Ice Shelf into the Weddell Sea. The iceberg is around 170 km in length and 25 km wide. The A-76, which is about 4320 square kilometers, surpassed the now second-place A-23A iceberg, floating in the Weddell Sea.

Ted Scambos, research glaciologist, via E-mails, said to Reuters that the A-76 iceberg, which is likely to split into pieces, is not linked to climate change. He also added that since the iceberg was already floating in the sea before dislodging from the coast, its break-away does not raise ocean levels.
