Jeffrey Epstein killed himself in his cell

The State ruled Epstein committed suicide, while his private lawyers claim murder.

The State ruled Epstein committed suicide, while his private lawyers claim murder.Convicted sex offender and financier Jeffery Epstein was arrested in July 2019. Weeks after, he attempted suicide in his cell after being denied bail. He was treated at a local hospital before being returned to the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York.

He was pronounced dead on being found unconscious on what the state ruled to be a second suicide attempt just before his trial. He was not on suicide watch despite warning signs. His private lawyers and a pathologist hired by his brother Dr. Baden, however, claim that he was murdered due to "unusual fractures" found on his neck in the autopsy and claiming he was in danger from other inmates. This has fuelled conspiracy theories about his murder, leading the FBI to probe if his death was "the result of a criminal enterprise" due to his high profile connections and involvements. The medical examiner's office, however, stands "firmly" by their finding that it was a suicide hanging.
