"A tally of mechanical ventilators found that New York City had fewer life-saving machines than was thought," Emergency Management Commissioner Deanne Criswell.

It was found that New York City has a total number of 3,500 ventilators as oppose to 5,000 suggested by the New York City Officials.

It was found that New York City has a total number of 3,500 ventilators as oppose to 5,000 suggested by the New York City Officials. The city of New York has been dealing with a major shortage of ventilators as the coronavirus rapidly spreads throughout the city. It was reported that emergency physicians are already being told to use their judgment in deciding who should be hooked up to a ventilator as stockpiles of the essential equipment dwindle. The Emergency Management Commissioner Deanne Criswell, in an interview on March 17, 2020, stated that life-saving mechanical ventilators tally is less than what she thought and there are about 3500 ventilators as oppose to 5000 in public and private hospitals in New York City.

Governor of New York Andrew Cuomo posted on his twitter that the city needs 30,000 ventilators and the federal government must provide these ventilators. The same was reiterated by the Mayor of New York who said that the State of New York needs 30,000 ventilators while New York City needs 15,000.
