The claim that the Chinese spy team working for the Canadian government sent pathogens earlier to Coronavirus outbreak is false.A tweet has been circulating on social media that the Chinese spy team working for the Canadian government sent pathogens earlier to Coronavirus outbreak. A person named J. Kyle Bass, Chief Investment Officer Hayman Capital Management claimed in his tweet that, a husband and wife who allegedly belonged to a Chinese spy team were recently removed from a Level 4 Infectious disease lab in Canada for sending pathogens to the Wuhan facility.

The ‘CBC’ news report dated 14 July 2019 stated that a lab researcher with link to China had been escorted out of the National Microbiology Lab(NML) in Winnipeg in the middle of a Royal Canadian Police Force (RCMP) investigation as a possible policy breach. It also added that NML was looked after by the public health agency of Canada. The fact-checking agency “factcheck.org” had mentioned in its article that, Canada’s public health agency spokesperson Morrissette told them that for ‘privacy reasons’ they won’t comment further to confirm that the tweet was spreading misinformation.

Neither the tweet nor the article above has given conclusive evidence to confirm the involvement of a Chinese spy team in transporting the pathogens to China. Also, there are no other reliable sources or documents to confirm the veracity of the allegations made in this claim.

The COVID-19 pandemic has given rise to a lot of potentially dangerous misinformation. For reliable advice on COVID-19 including symptoms, prevention and available treatment, please refer to the World Health Organisation or your national healthcare authority.
