Gujarat was under a 57-hour curfew while four cities in the state have imposed night curfews. But the government has ruled out a statewide lockdown.Gujarat is in the midst of the second COVID-19 wave as the infection rates are surging post-Diwali. The state had recorded 1420 fresh cases on Nov. 20, 2020. The daily figure of new infections has been increasing in the state, and as a result, the government had imposed a 57 hours complete curfew from November 20, 9 pm to 6 am on November 23. The night curfew has been brought back in Rajkot, Surat, Ahmedabad, and Vadodara between 9 pm and 6 am in the wake of surging COVID-19 cases in the state.

However, rumors about the statewide lockdown were dismissed by Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, stating that there were no plans of imposing a complete lockdown in the state. He had further urged people to follow the 57-hour curfew to control the sudden spike of the virus. Additional Chief Secretary Rajiv Kumar Gupta also ruled out any plans of fresh lockdowns in the state apart from night curfew.
