The Jan Sahas survey states that more than 92.5% of labourers have lost work for up to three weeks owing to the COVID-19 lockdown.India’s coronavirus outbreak and the ongoing lockdown has impacted the livelihoods of a large proportion of the country's nearly 40 million internal migrants. A significantly disturbing data that emerged from the rapid assessment survey is that 92.5% of labourers have already lost work ranging from one week to three weeks. A majority of the labourers were trying to return to their homes during the lockdown by walking hundreds of kilometres, as they had little to no cash or food supplies left with them combined with an uncertainty of when they will be able to earn something for their sustenance.
OLX had announced the launch of a donative drive ‘OLX Pledge’ that commits to providing relief measures to migrant workers in India. Most of the migrant workers have lost up to three weeks of work, a million workers were in relief camps and around half a million have walked back to their homes due to COVID-19 lockdown.
