Regardless of political position or party affiliation, Facebook prohibits hate speech and the content that incites violence.Earlier, on August 14, 2020, Wall Street Journal published an article titled 'Facebook Hate-Speech Rules Collide with Indian Politics' in which it is alleged that Facebook ignored hate speech and objectionable content from leaders and workers of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). People started reacting to these allegations after the report was widely circulated on social media and also started an online campaign to deactivate their Facebook accounts.

Reacting to these allegations, a Facebook spokesperson clarified that it prohibits hate speech and content that incites violence and also enforces policies regardless of anyone's political position or party affiliation globally.
