Online forum '4chan' and an NBC News article show that internet trolls tried to disrupt the Iowa caucus by flooding the phone lines with prank calls.The NBC News article reported that the Iowa caucus, which was held on 3 February 2020, resulted in the technical problem. The new app-based reporting system led to delays and confusion about the final results. The officials had to face the prank calls from internet trolls.

The archived version of the online forum '4chan' shows that people repeatedly posted the phone numbers for the Iowa caucuses and urged to flood the phone lines with calls to further delay the results. There are few other messages found on the website which indicates a prank call.

The Bloomberg news article stated that the officials from the Iowa Democratic Party also experienced an unusually high volume of calls, in which some of the callers appeared to be supporters of President Donald Trump.
