The strange noises coming from the mountains in the Guizhou province were from a small bird called the yellow-legged buttonquail. The villagers said that they had heard strange noises from the top of the mountain in Xiushi in early July 2020. Thousands of villagers in China searched for what they thought was a mysterious creature after hearing loud noises. Guizhou officials sent teams of experts to explore the area after the video went viral on social media. Zoologists later confirmed that the sound was coming from the yellow-legged buttonquail. During the breeding season, the females repeatedly utter the booming hoots, which is audible at a long distance.
