Around 40,000 U.S. troops who fought in Iraq and Afghanistan have resigned to show solidarity with the people of Afghanistan.

An old video from 2012 where a group of U.S. war veterans protested against NATO's military policy is being shared as a recent one.

An old video from 2012 where a group of U.S. war veterans protested against NATO's military policy is being shared as a recent one.A viral video on social media states that 40,000 American soldiers who fought in Afghanistan and Iraq have resigned and threw away their war medals in solidarity with the people of Afghanistan and Iraq. The video is shared in the backdrop of the recent U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan after two decades.

We found that the video was from 2012 when nearly 50 U.S. military veterans hurled their war medals towards a convention center to show anger against NATO's military policy. The anti-NATO rally held in Chicago drew together both peace activists and war veterans. On May 21, 2012, a Reuters report mentioned that the war veteran's action was a symbolic move rejecting the U.S.-led war in Iraq and Afghanistan. The same visuals were also seen in the video report published by Democracy Now! on May 20, 2012.

We mark the claim as false as the video has no connection with the recent fiasco in Afghanistan.
