However, continuing infringements on press freedom, including police brutality against journalists, political dissidents', and retaliatory attacks by criminal gangs or crooked city authority officials, have taken place. India was on the 140th position in 2019; it has dropped to the 142nd position in 2020.

For the fourth year running, Norway is ranked first in the table. China is just three positions above the 180th position, and North Korea is in the 180th position.
