India has let 65 lakh tonnes of grains go waste in godowns in four months.

The Food Corporation of India clarified that the media had misinterpreted the data regarding the food grains.

The Food Corporation of India clarified that the media had misinterpreted the data regarding the food grains. The Scroll.in had published an article reporting that 65 lakh MT food grain has been wasted between January 1 and May 1, the stock of rice and wheat that was not readily issuable, which included partially spoilt as well as damaged grain, increased from 7.2 lakh tonnes to 71.8 lakh tonnes.

The letter which has been written by the Executive Director Sudeep Singh (FCI) to The Editor of Scroll pointed out that the website had published wrong information without making any efforts to check the facts published in the research paper, which was used as a reference. The report stated that 65 lakh MT grains have gone to waste, and the FCI said that a blatantly unfair interpretation of the actual stock position was indicated in the report, and it doesn’t do justice to the performance of FCI. It was also confirmed that food grains have not been wasted by any measure, and they are fit for human consumption.
