Uttar Pradesh has built the highest number of affordable houses for the poor in the country.

Uttar Pradesh has the highest number of houses built under the PMAY-Urban sector; while West Bengal has the highest number under the Gramin sector.

Uttar Pradesh has the highest number of houses built under the PMAY-Urban sector; while West Bengal has the highest number under the Gramin sector.Dharmendra Pradhan, member of Bharatiya Janata Party, Minister of Education and Minister of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Government of India, while addressing a press conference on January 14, 2022, in pursuit of the Uttar Pradesh election, passed a few statements. He contended that Uttar Pradesh had built the highest number of affordable houses for the poor in the country. On reviewing the reports, it could be considered that it was misinterpreted.

Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) was launched to provide affordable houses to people in the country. The report, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban), updated as of January 3, 2022, documents progress in all states. Under which Uttar Pradesh stands first in delivering/completing 9,82,110 houses out of 17,67,212 houses sanctioned, Gujarat stands second with 6,29,268 houses, and West Bengal stands seventh with 2,86,549 houses.

The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin) report as of January 26, 2022, under state-wise consolidated data, records 14,36,178 houses completed in Uttar Pradesh and stands fifth. But, West Bengal records 23,33,821 houses and stands first, and Bihar stands second with 21,18,337 houses.

Although Uttar Pradesh has built the highest number of affordable houses for the poor in the country under the PMAY Urban sector, it stands fifth under the Gramin sector. Therefore, we mark the claim as partly true.
