China's legislature had approved the proposal to impose new national security legislation for Hong Kong in Beijing's Great Hall of the People.Chinese lawmakers considered a draft decision on national security legislation for Hong Kong and agreed that it is a major move that helps safeguard national sovereignty, unity, territorial integrity, and the foundation of 'one country, two systems'. The Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian also said that the National People's Congress (NPC) decision is to establish and improve a legal framework and enforcement mechanisms for safeguarding national security in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) which will be entirely China's internal affair that allows no foreign interference. Further, Cally Kwong Mei-wan, an NPC deputy from Hong Kong, said after the adoption of the decision, Hong Kong still has to complete the national security legislation requirement stipulated by Article 23 of the Basic Law of the HKSAR at an early date.
