The crime branch of Pune and Military Intelligence arrested six persons, including military personnel over fake Indian and foreign currencies. Southern Command Liaison Unit (SCLU) of the Military Intelligence (MI) and teams from the Crime Branch (Unit4) of Pune City Police had conducted a joint operation on 10 June 2020 based on a tipoff on an Indian counterfeit currency ring. This joint operation was carried out in the Viman Nagar area of Pune, Maharashtra. They arrested six persons, including Shaikh Alim Gulab Khan (36), who is serving as a jawan in the Indian army. They seized Indian and foreign counterfeit notes with a face value of Rs 87 crore.
Further, the Crime Branch and the Anti-Narcotics Cell (Pune West region) teams coordinated with MI teams for further interrogations regarding the source of origin of the currency notes. A local court in Pune had initially remanded the accused into police Custody till 15 June. The remand, however, was further extended to 20 June.
